Curator appointed

The 1st edition of the International Show for contemporary art, 2007, in Trondheim- Curators appointed

The organizers of the 1st edition of International Show for contemporary art in 2007 are delighted to announce the appointment of Valerie Kirshenbaum, Pear Museum Los Angeles, USA, as the director of the forthcoming International Show, which will take place in 06.02 February through 06.06 June, 2007. Rickard Borgström is appointed as Co- Curator.

Valerie Kirshenbaum is a curator and writer based in Los Angeles. Among the most influential teachers at Pear Uni®II, she has nurtured several former students onto the Pear Resident Practitioner Program, of which she is a selector. Appointed as Chief Curator to the Pear Museum Los Angeles, she recently curated a retrospective of dissenting artists, ‘Biting the Hand that Feeds’ (in association with Kenneth Mader Ltd. New York) and the group exhibition ‘They Had Three Years...’, which presented, to a US audience, the results of Pear Africa’s avant-garde social services project in Malawi. Kirshenbaum’s most prestigious appointment to date is her directorship of last year’s Pear Art Fair. She has written extensively about various artists in books, catalogues and magazines; her most recent publication being Art Since 1999: Postmodernism, Antipostmodernism, Postpostmodernism (edited with David Destino, Celeste Rodman and Jacqueline Schardt). Rickard Borgström is independent curator born in Hägersten, Sweden with roots in Finland. He is the founder of the art magazine VOLKS together with Peter Rosvik, which participated in the international showcase of art magazines “Traveling Magazine Table” at IASPIS, Stockholm. At Gallery KIT, Trondheim, he recently curated the festival and archive exhibition “PERFORM06- What is performance?” Currently he is developing an international platform for artistic development in Trondheim, Norway and curating “Performance show” during Cultur Capital Stavanger 2008.

International Show aims to become a major international event in contemporary art. Located in Trondheim Norway, in the midst of the vibrant cultural scene of a rapid changing Mid Nordic Capital, and strives for a close contact with the audience as an experimental, forward-looking and context-sensitive show. The first edition explores the exhibition format and the International Show intend to continue presenting diverse curatorial agendas.

There will be a press conference held in spring 2007 to introduce Valerie Kirshenbaum and her concept of the 1st International Show to the public and media. Date, time and place will be announced.
